Sunderland flop Danny Graham joins Blackburn on loan

Sunderland striker Danny Graham has found goals hard to come by in his native northeast, so looks to address this in a loan switch to Blackburn Rovers until the end of the season.

Graham cost the Black Cats £5 million three years ago, but he has just one goal in 37 appearances to show for his efforts. In Blackburn, the 30-year-old moves from a Premier League struggler to a side winless in six outings and with the third-worst Championship goal tally of 23.

"It's been a mad 24 hours, I was training with Sunderland yesterday morning and then I came down here last night to get things sorted, so I'm delighted to get it done. I'm looking forward to the first game against Charlton (on Saturday) and hopefully we can get off to a flying start," Graham told the club website.

The former Carlisle United, Watford, and Swansea City striker was given an opportunity at Sunderland under new boss Sam Allardyce recently, appearing in six of its last seven games, but failed to make a telling impact.

"I was aware of the interest in the background and obviously I've been playing a bit at Sunderland the last few weeks, so I'm coming here with games under my belt, which is also pleasing, so hopefully we can both do well for each other," Graham said.

Graham is expected to be drafted straight into the matchday squad for the weekend's trip to Charlton, but is ineligible for the FA Cup fourth-round clash with Oxford United at the end of the month due to turning out for Sunderland in the previous round.
