Stoke's record signing of midfielder Giannelli Imbula ended any chance Van Ginkel had of earning consistent minutes with the Potters.
The move to PSV is Van Ginkel's third loan spell in two years. The 23-year-old failed to maintain a spot in the starting lineup at the Britannia Stadium after spending the first half of the Premier League campaign there. A year-long spell at AC Milan last season proved more fruitful, with the Dutchman making 16 league starts for the Rossoneri.
A serious knee injury curtailed his only season with Chelsea, from 2013-14. The injury limited him to just two starts with the Blues across all competitions. He arrived at Stamford Bridge from Dutch club Vitesse in 2013.
