Barcelona crush Rayo's hopes with last-minute fightback
Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez each scored in the final minutes of regular time to earn Barcelona a 3-2 comeback win over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.
Suarez poked home the winning goal shortly after Dembele's equalizer in the 87th minute.
Rayo, who started the day in 19th place, were en route to a memorable win over the league leaders thanks to Jose Pozo's low, driven strike in the first half and Alvaro Garcia's scrappy effort after the interval, but couldn't hold their 2-1 advantage.
Suarez opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he converted Jordi Alba's short pass from close range. It was the sixth goal Alba has created in all competitions this season.
Pozo responded with a fantastic strike from outside the area to send the home supporters into delirium.
The unthinkable nearly became a reality when Garcia jumped on a rebound to give Rayo a shocking lead.
But the promise of a famous victory fell apart just as fans prepared to celebrate. Dembele, who's spent time in and out of Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde's doghouse, came off the bench to score, and Suarez bagged his league-leading ninth goal to condemn the La Liga minnows.
