Messi breaks Xavi's single-season La Liga assists record
Add another record to Lionel Messi's ever-growing collection.
The Barcelona megastar surpassed fellow club icon Xavi in his team's final match of the campaign against Alaves on Sunday, setting a new standard for most assists in a single La Liga season by recording his 21st helper of the year.

Though Messi, 33, has grown visibly frustrated as the title slipped away from Barcelona in the final weeks of the season, he's continued to produce at an unmatched pace.
In addition to his domination of the assist column - nobody else had more than 11 - the Argentine also won his record-breaking seventh Pichichi award as La Liga's top scorer.
With a pair of markers in Sunday's 5-0 win, Messi finished with a league-leading 25 goals, four clear of nearest challenger Karim Benzema.
