Somehow, Bayern Munich's journey is over.

Villarreal are sensationally through to the Champions League semifinals following a superb breakaway goal in the 88th minute on Tuesday.

Substitute Samuel Chukwueze made it 2-1 on aggregate with Villarreal's first and only effort on target in the match. Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski's earlier finish for the hosts was just one of 24 shots attempted by the German giants.

Villarreal, a modest Spanish club hailing from a town of around 50,000 people, are on a remarkable unbeaten streak of 13 European knockout games under manager Unai Emery. The only major honor in their 99-year history was taken from last season's shock Europa League final triumph over Manchester United.
