Barcelona, Oct 22, 2022 (AFP) - Real Valladolid earned a 1-0 win over high-flying Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday, ending the visitors' run of eight straight victories.
The Basque team had two goals disallowed and numerous chances to find an equalizer after Sergio Leon's opener in the 16th minute.
Real Sociedad stay provisionally third, although Atletico Madrid or Real Betis could overtake them when they face each other on Sunday.
Valladolid had an early strike from Monchu disallowed for a foul in the build-up but soon were on the scoresheet.
Imanol Alguacil's side fell behind when Leon ran onto a long ball and beat Alex Remiro at his near post after holding off Robin Le Normand.
Real Sociedad winger Take Kubo probed at the other end repeatedly but when he found the net, the goal was ruled out for a foul by Martin Zubimendi on Oscar Plano.
Carlos Fernandez should have equalized after a great cross from Brais Mendez but fluffed his lines from close range, failing to pull off a shot. Zubimendi had a goal of his own ruled out in the final stages for offside, as Real Sociedad couldn't find a way to salvage a point.
"We are very happy, six points and two wins at home in a row," said match-winner Leon. "They are a very good team with a lot of quality, so we are very happy.
"I'm happy for the goal but above all for the victory, which brings life to our team."
Earlier, Rayo Vallecano thrashed Cadiz 5-1, with the visitors, 19th, having both Iza Carcelen and Ruben Alcaraz sent off.
