Atletico's Sorloth doubtful for Leverkusen clash
Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth has suffered a "moderate injury", the Spanish club said Thursday, with local media suggesting he will miss the Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen next week.
Sorloth struck twice in the 4-0 Copa del Rey win at Elche on Wednesday but was "substituted as a precaution at half-time... due to discomfort," said Atletico in a statement, without specifying the Norwegian striker's injury or giving an expected recovery time.
Sorloth is expected to miss the visit to Leganes in La Liga on Saturday and is also a serious doubt for Leverkusen's visit to the Metropolitano stadium next Tuesday.
The German side are flying high in fourth in the European standings, while Atletico are 11th and aiming to finish in the top eight to qualify for the last 16 automatically.
Despite regularly appearing as a substitute, Sorloth is Atletico's top goalscorer in La Liga with eight strikes, although he is yet to find the net in the Champions League.
