James starts for England against Spain in Euro 2025 final

Lauren James is included in England's starting line-up for Sunday's final of the Women's Euro 2025 against Spain after shaking off an ankle injury.

The Chelsea winger came off at half-time in the semi-final win over Italy but coach Sarina Wiegman said that James had trained with the rest of the squad on the eve of the final.

Chloe Kelly and Michelle Agyemang, who have both had enormous impacts off the bench in each of the last two rounds, again start among the substitutes for the match at St Jakob-Park in Basel.

Meanwhile Jess Carter returns in central defence after Esme Morgan started the extra-time win against the Italians in Geneva.

There is a surprise in the Spain line-up as Athenea del Castillo is named in the attack by coach Montse Tome instead of Claudia Pina.

Barcelona's Pina scored both goals when Spain beat England 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League at the beginning of last month.

Reigning Ballon d'Or Aitana Bonmati and her predecessor Alexia Putellas take their places in midfield as Spain look for a repeat of their win against England in the 2023 World Cup final.
