Cristiano Ronaldo was upended by Dimitri Payet during the early stages of Portugal's Euro 2016 final against host France on Sunday, sustaining an apparent knee injury which, despite his best efforts, eventually ended his participation in the 25th minute.
A sad turn in what could've been the Real Madrid star's great opportunity to put an end to his country's major trophy drought, and one that could be detrimental to the match as a spectacle.
To add insult to injury, one of the many moths wreaking havoc on the Stade de France pitch made a beeline for Ronaldo's eye while he sat defeated on the turf.
