Heartbreaking photos of Ronaldo's Euro 2016 final exit
Cristiano Ronaldo's European Championship final ended, as it did 12 years ago, in tears.
This time, though, those tears were not brought on by the agony of defeat, but by the short-lived nature of his appearance, as Ronaldo exited the Euro 2016 final with an apparent knee injury.

It all started just around eight minutes into the match, as France winger Dimitri Payet collided with Ronaldo, bringing the Portugal captain to the ground, wincing in pain.

After receiving treatment on the touchline, Ronaldo came back into the match, but in the 17th minute, the Real Madrid man went back down clutching his left knee and walked off for treatment once again.

Ronaldo came on a second time, but in the 24th minute, he dropped back down and motioned for the bench once more, his night over before it began. With tears in his eyes, Ronaldo was stretchered off, with Nani taking the captain's armband and Ricardo Quaresma coming on in his stead.
