Spain confirms Euro 2020 place after Rodrigo's 92nd-minute equalizer

Rodrigo's short-range tap-in punched Spain's ticket to Euro 2020 on Tuesday despite an unconvincing display from Robert Moreno's side against Sweden.

The substitute diverted Fabian Ruiz's shot past Robin Olsen after 92 minutes to wipe out Marcus Berg's headed opener and clinch a dramatic 1-1 draw. Spain needed to avoid defeat to confirm qualification for next summer's tournament.

Spain started the match strongly but Olsen - who has been in fine form for Cagliari in Serie A - thwarted the visitor with a succession of impressive stops between the sticks.

Sweden then belatedly gained a foothold midway through the first half and forced David De Gea into an excellent reach when Robin Quaison directed a firm header toward the goalkeeper's mesh.

De Gea was withdrawn at the hour mark with a suspected hamstring injury shortly after Berg had given Sweden the lead by bundling home from a couple of yards.

Spain was flat and rarely looked capable of breaching Sweden in Solna until Rodrigo was granted the simple task of converting from inside the six-yard box following a corner.
