There couldn't be a worse day for Hungary to be hosting Romania in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Amid Europe's worst refugee crisis since World War II, up to 1,000 people - mainly desperate Syrian refugees and migrants blocked by Hungarian authorities from travelling by train to Austria and Germany - began a 105-mile march from Budapest's main railway station to Austria on Friday, taking matters into their own hands and attempting the journey by foot.

With Hungary and Romania also renewing their eternal rivalry at Groupama Arena in Budapest on Friday, Hungarian football hooligans, renowned for their right-wing affiliations, spent the buildup to the qualifier pelting refugees with smoke bombs and fireworks. The refugees responded with plastic bottles and shoes.
