Team USA finalizes World Cup roster after Kuzma forced out with ankle injury
Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma will miss the FIBA World Cup due to a left ankle issue, USA Basketball announced.
That leaves Team USA with its final roster of 12 players for the tournament, although the squad will now be without a bona fide power forward at the event.
Player | Team | Position |
---|---|---|
Kemba Walker | Boston Celtics | PG |
Derrick White | San Antonio Spurs | PG |
Marcus Smart | Boston Celtics | PG/SG |
Joe Harris | Brooklyn Nets | SG |
Donovan Mitchell | Utah Jazz | SG |
Harrison Barnes | Sacramento Kings | SG/SF |
Jaylen Brown | Boston Celtics | SG/SF |
Khris Middleton | Milwaukee Bucks | SF/PF |
Jayson Tatum | Boston Celtics | SF/PF |
Brook Lopez | Milwaukee Bucks | C |
Mason Plumlee | Denver Nuggets | C |
Myles Turner | Indiana Pacers | C |
Kuzma's injury also kept him out of Team USA's loss to Australia Saturday in Melbourne - the American national team's first defeat since it fell to Greece at the 2006 FIBA World Championship. He did feature in the side's first game against the Boomers on Thursday, however, contributing 12 points on four 3-pointers in a 102-86 win.
With their 12-man squad now set, the U.S. will return to their training camp in Australia on Sunday before facing Canada in a final exhibition matchup Monday. The Americans will then fly out to China for the final leg of their World Cup preparation before opening their tournament against the Czech Republic on Sept. 1 in Shanghai.
