Hamilton, Russell pen new deals with Mercedes through 2025
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell extended their contracts with Mercedes through the end of the 2025 season, the team announced Thursday.
"We dream everyday of being the best and we have dedicated the past decade together to achieving that goal," Hamilton said in a statement. "Being at the top does not happen overnight or over a short period of time, it takes commitment, hard work and dedication and it’s been an honor to earn our way into the history books with this incredible team."
Hamilton, a seven-time champion, has won six times since his first season with the Silver Arrows in 2013. He won his first with McLaren in 2008 amid a six-year stay there. At Mercedes, Hamilton boasts 82 of his record 103 career victories - though his last came on Dec. 5, 2021 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
His previous agreement with the team was set to expire following the end of the current term but now ensures both parties will remain tied for at least 13 seasons.
"We have never been hungrier to win," he said. "We have learnt from every success but also every setback. We continue to chase our dreams, we continue to fight no matter the challenge and we will win again.
"I'm grateful to the team who have supported me both on and off the track. Our story isn't finished, we are determined to achieve more together and we won't stop until we do."
Russell first joined Mercedes in 2017 as part of its junior program but made his F1 debut in 2019 with Williams. Ahead of the 2022 season, he swapped Williams for Mercedes, with which he achieved his first and only career win to date at the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
