George Russell: Claims Las Vegas Pole
Russell stormed to pole position for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, edging out Ferrari rival Carlos Sainz and the high-flying Alpine of Pierre Gasly in Friday night's pulsating qualifying session, Formula1.com reports.
Analysis:
This qualifying session would be marked by a spectacular crash by Franco Colapinto. Once the course was cleaned up and repaired a thrilling Q3 would take place. A multi-team battle for the top between Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren would ensue. Russell would post an incredible lap of 1:32.312 in the closing seconds to bump Sainz from the top by one tenth. The Mercedes star will roll off P1 in the Las Vegas GP and be a top contender to win.
