Nico Hulkenberg: First-Career Podium

Hulkenberg finished third in the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Silverstone Circuit on Sunday afternoon.

Analysis:

Hulkenberg would pull of an improbable move from 19th on the starting grid to the front of the pack in a mix of fantastic race strategy and good driving. The veteran driver started on intermediate tyres and raced all the way up to P8 for his lap 9 pit stop, just before the heavy rain began. Hulkenberg would have the luxury of staying out when everyone else headed to pit road during the lap 11 downpour. That would allow him to climb up to P5 during all those stops. The Sauber driver would hold onto that track position gained and overtake Lance Stroll to grab P3. Hulkenberg would fend off Lewis Hamilton late to secure that podium finish, his first in his 239th F1 start.
