Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton took his ongoing rivalry with teammate to the next level.

Prior to Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix Hamilton embraced Rosberg with a hug, but the former world champions stated that the act will not occur again.

"I gave him a hug at the beginning of the weekend to really try to keep the relationship in a good place," Hamilton said via Sky Sports

"Then yesterday came about and that won't be happening again anytime soon."

Rosberg won the Monaco Grand Prix and was involved in a controversial incident during qualifying, resulting in Hamilton admitting to his competition with Rosberg following Sunday's race.

"Generally, there is a fierce battle between me and Nico and it will continue that way to I'm sure quite late in the season. Nico's not had a single hiccup through the season so far. Obviously I had a car that didn't finish in Melbourne but otherwise it's still quite close, so I'm just going to keep my head up, keep pushing. I know the team are working hard for both of us. The team can sometimes be in awkward positions, which they were yesterday, and their job is really to protect us both and that's what they did."

Rosberg snapped Hamilton's streak of four consecutive victories, and leads the latter by four points in the drivers' standings.
