Lille bury PSG nightmare with Ajaccio victory
Ajaccio, France, Aug 26, 2022 (AFP) - Lille buried the nightmare of their 7-1 rout at the hands of PSG last weekend by defeating Ajaccio 3-1 in Ligue 1 on Friday.
"The most important thing after the last match was to show that we had the strength to react," said Lille defender Jose Fonte.
"Good teams do not lose twice in a row. These are three important points."
Paulo Fonseca's Lille side were in front after 16 minutes when Yusuf Yazici cleverly dinked the ball forward before volleying home.
Ajaccio, still without a win so far this season, conceded again just before the break when Jonathan Bamba converted a cross from Jonathan David.
A Tiago Djalo free-kick after 67 minutes made it 3-0 to the 2021 Ligue 1 champions.
Cyrille Bayala headed in an 83rd minute consolation for the home side before David squandered a chance to extend Lille's lead when he crashed a penalty off the post.
