Ex-Marseille midfielder Abriel takes charge of PSG Women

Fabrice Abriel, who began his professional career at Paris Saint-Germain has been appointed as the new coach of the club's women's team, the Champions League semi-finalists announced on Monday.

Abriel, 45, who has signed a two-year deal, succeeds Jocelyn Precheur, who arrived in September 2023 to replace his father Gerard Precheur. 

Last season PSG finished second to Lyon in the domestic league and also lost to their great rivals in the semi-finals of the Champions League. 

They did win the French Cup thanks to a 1-0 win over Fleury - who were coached by Abriel. 

"It's a real honour to have been chosen to start this new chapter for the Paris Saint-Germain women's team," said Abriel who spent two years with PSG, winning the Intertoto Cup in 2001, before embarking on a long professional career which included stints at Amiens, Lorient, Marseille and Nice. 

"I'd like to thank the club for their faith in me. I was fortunate enough to be at the youth academy and to have made my professional debut here.

"I'm proud to return and delighted to have the chance to give back to Paris Saint-Germain what it gave me.

"I'm looking forward to starting work with this squad of extremely talented players, who should be ambitious for the seasons to come."
