French prosecutors conclude Hamraoui attack investigation
French prosecutors have concluded their investigation into the brutal assault of former Paris Saint-Germain women's star Kheira Hamraoui, they told AFP on Wednesday.
Hamraoui was attacked in November 2021 by two masked men in front of her then teammate Aminata Diallo as the pair were returning home after a team dinner.
Diallo was at the wheel of the car when attackers allegedly forced them to stop.
Hamraoui was dragged out and beaten on the legs with an iron bar, resulting in injuries that required stitches in hospital.
Diallo was charged with aggravated violence and criminal association and placed under judicial supervision for her role in the ambush.
Investigators believed Hamraoui's former club and France teammate had plotted the assault motivated by professional rivalry as Diallo was competing with the veteran for a midfield starting spot.
Diallo denies any involvement.
Six other people were also charged in connection with the attack that caused shockwaves at PSG and in French football.
Hamraoui's lawyer declined to comment over the inquiry's conclusion when contacted by AFP.
But Diallo's lawyer Mourad Battikh claimed the police had unearthed nothing to prove his client was involved.
"The judicial investigation ends as it began: without any element to demonstrate the involvement or more broadly the guilt of Aminata Diallo in this case,” declared Battikh.
Hamraoui, capped 42 times for France, left PSG at the end of her contract in 2023 for a short spell playing in Mexico before signing for Saudi side Al-Shabab last year.
Diallo left PSG in 2022 and now also plays in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.
