Gael Clichy to coach Mbappe's club Caen

Former Arsenal and Manchester City star Gael Clichy was appointed coach at French third division side Caen on Monday.

The Norman club is owned by Kylian Mbappe, whose takeover was  followed by relegation  to the third tier of French league football last season.

The 40-year-old Clichy was assistant to Thierry Henry as coach of the French Olympic side at the 2024 Games, but this is his first stint as head coach.

"He will bring high level experience and knowledge of the modern game," Caen said.

Caen, who have won four of their past 15 games, fired the previous coach Maxime d'Ornano earlier Monday.
