Laurent Blanc opens up about 'brutal' PSG exit

Laurent Blanc wasn't willing to disguise his feelings about the way his managing career came to an abrupt end at Paris Saint-Germain six months ago.

Despite guiding the capital city team to three straight Ligue 1 titles and other pieces of silverware that any manager in France would be proud to have on their CV, Blanc found himself unemployed following three seasons at the Parc des Princes.

While he admits that his ego would not allow him to believe another manager would be unable to do a better job, Blanc said his dismissal could have been handled better after three trophy-laden seasons in charge.

"I can understand when a club wants, at a certain moment, to try something else with other people," he told Le Figaro, as translated by Jonathan Johnson of ESPNFC. "I am not pretentious enough to think I was the only person capable of coaching this team.

"I would have liked that things happened in a different manner as it was a bit brutal but as you know, I have been in football for 30 years and I know how it works. For a coach to be fired, this is nothing new. Also, spending three years with such a big club is not easily done."

Former Sevilla boss Unai Emery was hired in his place, but has since gone on to struggle in the opening months of his reign in charge, as PSG sits four points off the lead a season after winning the Ligue 1 title with eight games remaining.

Blanc ultimately believes that PSG will win the title, but admits this season will offer more excitement.

"You will see, PSG will be in front come the end," Blanc said. "There is a lot of talk but ultimately, perhaps it is a bit more interesting now the team no longer dominates the league as some have complained."
