One person injured in explosions near Dortmund's team bus
One person has been injured after a trio of explosions near Borussia Dortmund's team bus Tuesday, the German club and local police confirmed, just over an hour before a scheduled Champions League quarter-final against Monaco.
After consultation with police and UEFA authorities, Dortmund announced that the match would be rescheduled for Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. local time (12:45 ET).
There were "three explosions near the team bus as they left the hotel to go to the stadium," North Rhine-Westphalia spokesman Gunnar Wortmann told the Associated Press. Wortmann added that "there was one player injured inside and damage to a window."
German outlet Bild identified defender Marc Bartra as the injured player and said he was taken to hospital, although neither police nor Dortmund confirmed he was hurt.
The explosion took place roughly 10 kilometres from Dortmund's Westfalenstadion, according to DW Sports, but police said there was no cause for concern to ticket holders in the stadium.
Tickets remain valid for Wednesday's rescheduled fixture.
