Report: City set to break club's transfer record by signing Monaco's Silva
Bernardo Silva will reportedly be pulling the strings at the Etihad Stadium.
Silva is set to join Manchester City from AS Monaco for £60 million (approximately €68 million), a fee that will break the Citizens' transfer record, according to the Guardian's Marcus Christenson and Fabrizio Romano. The 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder will apparently be Pep Guardiola's first signing of the summer transfer window and is expected to sign a five-year contract.
Per the Manchester Evening News' James Robson, Silva flew into Manchester Airport on Thursday and underwent a medical at City's academy on Friday.
Silva, who joined Monaco on a permanent deal from Benfica for €15.75 million in January 2015, was allegedly "earmarked" as one of Guardiola's top targets. After missing out on Euro 2016 due to injury, the playmaker was at the heart of Les Monegasques' conquest of Ligue 1, collecting eight goals and nine assists while playing in all but one of the club's league games.
As it stands, the most expensive signing in City's history is Kevin De Bruyne, who reportedly cost in the region of £51 million.
