Report: Lacazette completes Arsenal medical ahead of £52M move
Alexandre Lacazette was at Arsenal's Hertfordshire training base on Tuesday to complete a medical ahead of a club-record transfer from Lyon, according to BBC Sport's David Ornstein.
The reports - which are supported by The Telegraph's Jason Burt - should represent the final touches of a move that could rise to £52 million after performance-related add-ons.
Lacazette, who's scored 91 goals over the past four Ligue 1 seasons, is expected to sign a five-year contract in north London.
The 26-year-old was widely anticipated to join Atletico Madrid this summer, but when the capital club's transfer ban was upheld in June by the Court of Arbitration for Sport it left the striker in limbo. Atleti's loss is Arsenal's gain, as Lacazette now appears poised for the Emirates Stadium.
Unless Arsene Wenger opts for a change of formation at Arsenal, Lacazette would likely usurp the current spearhead of the frontline, Olivier Giroud. That could potentially result in Giroud reluctantly leaving the club at the age of 30 to seek regular first-team football.
"I want to carry on my good journey at Arsenal and I always want to give my best. I would love to win another title or maybe more until the end of my contract," Giroud told the "Arsenal Weekly" podcast in an episode released on Monday.
He might not be the only attacker to leave this summer, with Manchester City encouraged by Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness' understanding that the Bavarian giant isn't in the race to sign Alexis Sanchez. At City, Sanchez would be reunited with his old boss at Barcelona in Pep Guardiola.
Arsenal begins its campaign with the traditional curtain-raiser of the English season - the Community Shield - against Chelsea on August 6, before taking on Leicester City in N7 six days later.
