Edinson Cavani has publicly acknowledged a rift with Neymar following an on-field dispute during a September match against Lyon.
The Paris Saint-Germain teammates were infamously seen bickering on the field. Cavani appeared to take issue with Dani Alves' insistence that Neymar take a free kick; ostensibly in an act of retribution, Cavani later on refused to allow Neymar to take a penalty kick.
Nearly eight months after the public debacle, Cavani told French outlet RMC Sport that the events created tension between the two forwards, but that they've since worked it out.
"It is true that there was a problem at that time with Neymar. We spoke about it together - I told him that I was the first to want him to win things individually," Cavani said, as translated by ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson. "However, I told him there was a condition and that was that he must put the squad's collective objectives first.
"I am a footballing worker - I am not a star. If I have teammates who can win individual accolades, then I will do everything to help them. They must put the team's goals first, though. Gradually, we have come to an understanding. The team's superiors have taken a decision and I have respected it."
Following the incident, Neymar was given PSG's primary spot-kick duties over Cavani, though fans of Les Parisiens evidently didn't approve. An audible contingent of supporters at the Parc des Princes booed Neymar during an 8-0 drubbing of Dijon in January as he stepped up to take a penalty instead of the Uruguayan.
Cavani, however, didn't take pleasure in seeing his teammate booed by their own fans.
"The supporters whistling, this was not good for him," he said. "If I was in his position there, it sincerely would not have pleased me."
Neymar underwent season-ending foot surgery in March.
