Ligue 1 club Paris FC confirmed the sacking of coach Stephane Gilli on Sunday and announced the appointment of former Paris Saint-Germain boss Antoine Kombouare as his replacement.

The capital club secured promotion to the French top flight for the first time since 1979 under Gilli last season.

But a run of poor form has left them just six points above the relegation play-off place and they conceded a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Toulouse on Saturday.

"Stephane Gilli will remain in the memory of all those who love this club, the one that helped us return to Ligue 1, almost half a century after leaving it," said PFC president Pierre Ferracci.

Kombouare was PSG coach when they were taken over by their Qatari owners but was quickly sacked and replaced by Carlo Ancelotti in 2011.

He will now be tasked with helping Paris FC, owned by the super-rich Arnault family, climb the table.

"We are delighted to welcome Antoine Kombouare, a well-known figure in the world of football, whose experience will allow us to continue the development of Paris FC," said Antoine Arnault.
