Bastia fans banned from Marseille trip
Marseille - Bastia supporters are banned from travelling to Marseille for Sunday's tension-charged Ligue 1 clash, France's Interior Minister announced on Friday.
"Individual or collective travel between the communes of Corsica and Marseille, by any means, for anyone claiming to be a fan of SC Bastia or behaving like one is forbidden," read the statement from Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.
The order recalls "the deep and violent rivalry between the groups of supporters" for Marseille and Bastia that "has resulted, in a recurring manner, in numerous incidents" during past matches between the two sides.
Measures to prevent Bastia fans from simply entering the Stade Velodrome or hanging around the area close to the stadium were deemed insufficient, despite the number of security forces set to be present.
