The England and France national teams stood alongside each other, the fans sang "La Marseillaise" together, and those inside Wembley Stadium on Tuesday produced a classy show of support to the victims of last week's Paris attacks.
Managers Roy Hodgson and Didier Deschamps emerged from the tunnel with Prince William and prime minister David Cameron, wreaths in hand, as the festivities began. Supporters on one end put up a mosaic of the French flag, while others dressed and painted themselves in the country's three iconic colours.
