Roma finalize Nzonzi deal for €26.65M plus bonuses
Roma completed the signing of defensive midfielder Steven Nzonzi from Sevilla on Tuesday for €26.65 million.
The total fee could rise above €30 million if certain bonuses are achieved, according to a club statement.
Sporting director Monchi was able to negotiate a discount on the 29-year-old, whose release clause with Sevilla stood at a reported €40 million.
Nzonzi, the 12th signing of Roma's busy summer window, is expected to replace the aging Daniele De Rossi at the base of manager Eusebio Di Francesco's midfield.
"Steven is a footballer with a mix of physical and technical qualities that we think will really add to the players that we already have here," Monchi said.
A late bloomer following underwhelming stints at Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, Nzonzi became a responsible midfielder over his three years at Sevilla, winning the Europa League in 2015-16 and a place in the competition's squad of the season. He earned the first of his nine international caps with France in 2017 and played a significant role off the bench as Les Bleus lifted their second World Cup in Russia.
