Report: Atletico's Godin in advanced talks over Inter move
Atletico Madrid center-back Diego Godin is close to joining Inter on a free transfer, according to Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio.
Godin, whose contract with Atletico expires in the summer, is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Nerazzurri.
Manchester United reportedly triggered Godin's release clause in August, but the 32-year-old opted to stay despite receiving an offer worth €9 million per season.
The situation then appeared to turn sour. Atletico failed to deliver on a promise to give Godin a significant raise, according to Marca's Isaac Suarez and Adrian Gomez, leading to uncertainty about his future with the club.
Although he's appeared in fewer matches than usual this season, Godin has always been considered a reliable presence for Diego Simeone's squad. Godin has also formed a close connection with attacker Antoine Griezmann, who's considered an honorary Uruguayan in part because of their friendship.
However, Godin would give Inter another viable option at the center-back position and provide cover in the event Milan Skriniar leaves the club. United reportedly expressed interest in the €100-million-rated defender, who turned heads over the past year with consistent shows of strength in one-on-one situations.
