Cagliari sign Slovenian winger Birsa
Milan - Slovenian international winger Valter Birsa has signed for Cagliari from Serie A bottom team Chievo, his new Italian club confirmed on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old, who has spent the last three years in Verona, agreed a deal until June 30, 2021.
Cagliari did not reveal financial details but praised Birsa as a player "with great technique and imagination, skilled in set pieces".
Birsa played for French clubs Sochaux and Auxerre before moving to Italy where he joined Genoa in 2011.
He also played for Torino and AC Milan until signing for Chievo in 2014, where he scored 18 goals in 163 games.
The first game for the 90-times capped Slovenian, who played in the 2010 World Cup, will be against Atalanta in the Italian Cup on Monday.
Cagliari are 13th in Serie A, with Chievo rock bottom having had three points deducted for false accounting.
