Juventus-Milan Coppa Italia semifinal postponed amid coronavirus fears

The Coppa Italia semifinal encounter between Juventus and AC Milan on Wednesday has been postponed until a later date, Serie A announced.

Serie A officials, who decided to call off the match less than 24 hours before kick-off, have not announced when the fixture will be played, according to a statement from Juventus.

Although a reason for the postponement wasn't announced, it appears the contest is the latest sporting event to be impacted by the growing concerns about the coronavirus outbreak in Italy, according to Reuters.

Turin city council members reportedly decided on Tuesday to postpone the game, even though the Piedmont region is not one of the three in Italy where sporting events have been banned (Lombardy, Veneto, and Emilia Romagna).

The ban was put in place on Sunday, and Juventus said the match would go ahead with spectators before Tuesday's decision.

Over the last 24 hours in Italy, 27 people have died from the coronavirus. Italy is one of the most severely affected countries in Europe, with over 2,500 people infected.
