Juventus hold off AC Milan to reach another Coppa Italia final
Italian football looks very different after the coronavirus lockdown. And yet, some things never change.
Juventus reached a fifth Coppa Italia final in six years Friday after a scoreless draw at home against AC Milan in the semifinal second leg.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a 91st-minute penalty in the first leg way back in February to give the Bianconeri the upper hand 1-1 on aggregate.
Friday's match - played behind closed doors at Juventus' Allianz Stadium - was the first since Serie A was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ronaldo missed a penalty in the first half, and seconds later, Milan's Ante Rebic was sent off for a high kick. The Rossoneri rarely posed a threat after that.
Juventus will face either Inter Milan or Napoli in the final, which will take place at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on June 17.
Napoli currently lead Inter 1-0 on aggregate.
The Italian government has gradually reopened the country in recent weeks, allowing bars, cafes, and restaurants to open after more than two months under lockdown. More than 34,000 people have died from the virus across the country.
Friday's semifinal second leg was previously scheduled for March 4 but was postponed 24 hours before kick-off. Serie A suspended the 2019-20 season on March 9.
The league now hopes to complete all remaining 124 fixtures between June 20 and Aug. 2.
