Report: Inter to sign United flop Sanchez for free, inherit wages
Manchester United are close to getting rid of Alexis Sanchez and his gargantuan contract.
Sanchez is expected to join Inter next season after a successful loan spell in Italy, with the Serie A club reaching an agreement to sign the 31-year-old permanently on a free transfer from Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian.
Although a transfer fee will not be exchanged, Inter have agreed to inherit the Chilean's contract for at least one season, Romano and Ed Aarons of The Guardian report.
Sanchez, whose current deal at United expires in 2022 and is worth around £390,000 per week, is set to make €7 million during the 2020-21 campaign after already agreeing to terms with Inter, Romano adds.
Confirmation of the deal would end Sanchez's nightmare career at Old Trafford. After joining the Red Devils in a blockbuster transfer in 2018, Sanchez experienced a massive dip in form, failing to replicate his Arsenal success.
United eventually moved on from the failed experiment by loaning Sanchez to Inter last season. The former Barcelona star managed to somewhat revive his career in Italy, scoring four times and providing nine assists during an injury-plagued season in Milan.
Meanwhile, it has yet to be decided if Sanchez will be available when Inter compete in the Europa League this week, as United only agreed to extend his loan until the end of the first week of August. Inter take on Getafe on Aug. 5 in the round of 16.
