Twitter stunned by Pirlo's appointment as Juventus boss
Andrea Pirlo is the new manager of Juventus. Yes, for real.
Despite boasting no managerial experience, the iconic ex-midfielder was hired on Saturday, just hours after the club decided to fire Maurizio Sarri.
The move, which came out of left field, left Twitter in shock. Here are some of the best reactions to the stunning appointment:
Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, a former teammate of Pirlo's during the latter's four-year spell at the club, wished his compatriot luck, but cheekily asked whether he now has to call him "coach."
Quindi ora devo chiamarti Mister!?!?!

In bocca al lupo per questa nuova sfida Andrea! #CoachPirlo pic.twitter.com/CWHMUoyqR3
Buffon is one year older, after all.
Pirlo's affinity for wine was also a hot topic after his hiring became official ...

... as was his lack of coaching experience.

As always, the Twitterverse also had its share of jokes:
What is Juve waiting for to announce the bigger news that Pirlo is actually going to be a player manager and slot right into the regista role.

Andrea Pirlo will thrive as Juve manager as long as he has two really hard-working, max-effort managers managing around him

Andrea Pirlo becomes the first manager in history to enter a job with a 100% email reply completion rate in his previous role. 14/14. Efficient
