Report: Manchester United in Onana talks as goalkeeping crisis looms
Manchester United are in talks with Andre Onana's representatives as the uncertainty around their goalkeeping situation increases, according to ESPN's Rob Dawson.
The Red Devils are expected to submit a formal offer to Inter Milan for Onana, who's reportedly valued between £40 million and £50 million. Other goalkeepers on United's radar include Brentford's David Raya and FC Porto's Diogo Costa.
United stepping up their interest in Onana coincides with David De Gea's anticipated departure. De Gea's current deal expires Friday. He'll then be available on a free transfer after the club officially withdrew its contract offer to the Spaniard, according to The Telegraph's Sam Wallace.
Erik ten Hag's growing concern over his options between the sticks led to his decision to block Tom Heaton from moving to Luton Town, Wallace reports. Heaton, 37, wanted to leave to be a Premier League regular, and newly promoted Luton would've offered that chance. However, United are reportedly expected to exercise their option to extend the veteran's contract by another year.
With De Gea seemingly on his way out and Heaton being retained as backup, Dean Henderson is currently on course to be United's first-choice goalkeeper. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, but he's been sidelined since January following surgery on a thigh injury.
Forest boss Steve Cooper wants to sign Henderson on a permanent basis, and United will allow the move if their goalkeeping situation is resolved, Dawson understands.
