The 25-year-old defender, sat alongside agent and former Barca skipper Carles Puyol, was unveiled Saturday - a day after news surfaced that the Bundesliga side had activated the €8-million buyout clause in his contract. The nine-time Spain international agreed to a four-year deal with Dortmund, ending a 14-year association with Barcelona after progressing through its famed La Masia academy.
Bartra's opportunities at the Camp Nou were restricted as he found himself down the defensive pecking order behind Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique, and Jeremy Mathieu. Despite this, Bartra is with his national team for its Euro 2016 campaign, due to begin on June 13 against Czech Republic.
In Germany, Bartra offers an instant replacement for Mats Hummels, who left the Westfalenstadion last month in a move to rival Bayern Munich.
Dortmund had already brought in talented teenager Ousmane Dembele from Rennes this summer, but in addition to Hummels, the club also lost box-to-box midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City.
It promises to be a summer of transition ahead of Thomas Tuchel's second season at the Dortmund helm.
