Juventus wishes Morata well after Real Madrid triggers buy-back clause
Thanks for all the memories, Alvaro Morata.
Italian giant Juventus released a statement Wednesday thanking Spanish forward Morata for his two years of service to the Turin-based club, wishing him well back in his native Spain after Real Madrid activated the buy-back clause on his contract.
"All associated with Juventus Football Club would like to wish Alvaro the very best of luck wherever his future may take him and thank him for two truly excellent years of service to the team," the club wrote on its official website.
"Gracias, Alvaro."
With 27 goals in 93 appearances, Morata departs Turin a fan favourite and while Juventus would certainly have liked to hold onto the Spanish international, the clause in his contract forced the Italian champion to relinquish the pivotal forward.
Juventus took the time to recall some of Morata's most important goals for the club, including those against Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, and even his boyhood club Real Madrid.
Goals against Manchester City and Sevilla last season made Morata the first Juventus player since Alessandro Del Piero to net in five consecutive Champions League matches, a mark of honour the club highlighted as well.
But the club pointed to an incredible solo run against Bayern Munich as the peak of his performances for the Bianconeri, as Morata burst past a throng of Bavarian stars to set up Juan Cuadrado's goal.
