Aitor Karanka has been leafing through his old Spanish address book ahead of Middlesbrough's Premier League return, and is poised to make a double signing from Valencia.
Antonio Barragan and Alvaro Negredo are set for Teesside, reports The Guardian's Louise Taylor, with the former costing £3 million and the latter initially joining on loan but with a view to signing for £9 million next summer.

Negredo, 30, has struggled on the Mediterranean coast lately, scoring five times in 25 La Liga appearances last season. But Karanka is confident he can reinvigorate the former Manchester City striker's career, and aims to make him the sixth and Barragan the seventh signings of the summer.
Negredo and 29-year-old Barragan will follow Viktor Fischer, Bernardo Espinosa, Marten de Roon, Jordan McGhee, and Victor Valdes to Middlesbrough, with the club ending a seven-year top-flight drought this upcoming season.
Karanka's side begins its 2016-17 term Aug. 13 when Stoke City visits.
