Guardiola: I wouldn't fit at Real Madrid
Pep Guardiola said Friday his allegiance to Barcelona means he couldn't take the Real Madrid job.
The Manchester City boss responded to a report in the Spanish press claiming Los Blancos contacted the 45-year-old prior to sacking Rafa Benitez last season.
The revelation came from biographer Marti Perarnau, whose latest book, "Pep Guardiola: La Metamorfosis," chronicles interviews and meetings with the manager since his time at Bayern Munich.
Perarnau told Spanish radio that Madrid phoned Guardiola's agent with the query, even though the club knew the answer would be no, according to ESPN FC's Adriana Garcia.
The gaffer doesn't believe he's the right man for the Santiago Bernabeu gig.
"I'm a follower of Barcelona. I don't think Real Madrid needs a manager like me and I wouldn't fit there either," he said, according to Sky Sports' Paul Vinnell.
Life in Manchester began without a hitch. His City side pulled off 10 wins to start the season, only to drop points in the next six.
But it hasn't affected his family life. His wife and kids moved with him to Manchester once he took over the club, and unlike counterpart Jose Mourinho - who said his current hotel situation is a "disaster" - Guardiola has no complaints.
"Yes, (I like it) a lot. The last period I'm not happy as before because we don't win but our lives don't depend on the results," he said, according to ESPN FC's Jonathan Smith. "(It spoils) a little bit how you live day by day because you have more worry about what you have to do to improve the team.
"But in general my kids are so happy in school, my wife as well. I work pretty good, I feel people try to take care of me. I'm so, so happy."
