Atletico's Oblak to undergo shoulder surgery; could miss 3-4 months
Atletico Madrid will have to do without its star shot-stopper for the foreseeable future.
Jan Oblak will require surgery on his left shoulder, the Spanish club confirmed Tuesday, a diagnosis which will rule out the 23-year-old for a reported three or four months.
Second-choice goalkeeper Moya will assume No. 1 duties while Oblak embarks on a long recovery process.
Oblak's expected to sit out marquee matches against Bayer Leverkusen (Feb. 21) and Barcelona (Feb. 26).
It's a big blow for Diego Simeone's lot, who are stuck in sixth place in La Liga after a helter-skelter start to the season.
Oblak's collected a league-high seven clean sheets in 15 appearances.
Moya showed he's capable of producing good saves after replacing Thibaut Courtois in 2014-15. But Oblak took the reins upon his arrival from Benfica, and has since become one of Europe's premier 'keepers.
