Rivellino brought the elastico to global attention in the 1960s, and Ronaldo and Ronaldinho subsequently took the piece of skill's popularity one step further.
But the trick isn't exclusive to Brazilian footballers.
In the 27th minute of Real Madrid's home La Liga fixture Saturday versus RCD Espanyol, Cristiano Ronaldo sent David Lopez to the Shadow Realm, humiliating the Spanish defender with an elastico that elicited a collective gasp. However, the Portuguese virtuoso was unable to pick out a teammate after deploying the move.
