Look: Airport named after Ronaldo unveils horrifying bust
Unlike the busts throughout Europe which seem to depict the image of historical figures in exact detail, sculptors have seemingly struggled to immortally portray Cristiano Ronaldo.
The latest example was unveiled Wednesday during a ceremony in his native Madeira Islands, where an airport was named after him.
As guests arrive at the Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo, they will be greeted by this alarming bust of the Real Madrid star, whose eyes appear way too close for comfort.
“You know how proud I am of my roots, my homeland,” Ronaldo said in front of distinguished guests that included both Portugal’s president and its prime minister, as well as hundreds of fans.
Ronaldo - who recognized that having a bust created was a unique experience for a living public figure - joins Manchester United legend George Best in an exclusive club of players to have an international airport named after them.
In 2014, an 11-foot statue of Ronaldo erected in Madeira drew even more criticism for its poor depiction of the Portuguese star.
