Levante makes immediate return to La Liga
One year after dropping out of La Liga, Levante UD is back in the top flight of Spanish football.
On Saturday, Levante defeated Real Oviedo 1-0 at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia, confirming Las Granotas' promotion from the Segunda Division. Sergio Postigo tallied the game's lone goal, heading home a corner kick in the 56th minute to spark jubilant celebrations on Spain's southeastern coast.
Levante, playing in the Segunda Division for the first time since 2009-10, can return to La Liga with its head held high. Las Granotas are atop the second tier after collecting 77 points from 36 games. Roger is the league's top scorer with 21 goals to his name. There's a sense of optimism at the club that was absent one year ago.
"Levante and clinically dead," wrote AS just before Levante was relegated.
Based off the pitch invasion that followed confirmation of Levante's promotion, Las Granotas are alive and well.
