Getafe returns to La Liga by beating Tenerife in promotion play-off
Getafe CF is stepping out of the shadows.
On Saturday, Getafe defeated CD Tenerife 3-1 in the second leg of the final of the Segunda Division's promotion play-offs, confirming Los Azulones' return to La Liga by virtue of a 3-2 victory on aggregate.

Alejandro Faurlin drew first blood at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, while Daniel Pacheco tallied two goals before the interval.
"We're happy," Jose Bordalas, Getafe's manager, said. "We've had a season of registering honour. The promotion is very deserved."
It was one year ago that Getafe was relegated from La Liga for the first time in its history. Los Azulones, which were founded in 1983, debuted in the top flight of Spanish football in 2004, and attracted supporters by, as Sid Lowe of the Guardian wrote in 2010, "relying on curious adverts to lure" fans. After the final whistle sounded on Saturday, those same people invaded the pitch, celebrating the club's return to the first division.
