Sevilla, Leicester reach agreement for transfer of Iborra; reported €14M fee
Vicente Iborra is abandoning La Liga.
On Tuesday, Sevilla and Leicester City reached an agreement for the transfer of Iborra, who will travel to the United Kingdom to pass his medical and put pen to paper on a contract. After signing the deal, the Spanish midfielder will return to Seville to say goodbye to the Andalusian club's supporters.
According to Marca's Alberto Fernandez, the transfer is valued at €14 million (around £12 million).
"If everything turns out as expected, Vicente Iborra will leave Nervion after four seasons full of compromise and will, bearing the armband as the first captain in his last season," Sevilla declared in a statement. "Iborra has always shown an exemplary behaviour and has earned the respect and affection from all the sevillistas. Three Europa Leagues, 172 games, and 30 goals are the numbers of a legend that will be remembered for his leadership on and off of the pitch, as well as by the dignity that he gave to the captain's armband every time he wore it.
Sevilla was eliminated by Leicester in the 2016-17 Champions League, as the Foxes overturned a one-goal deficit in the second leg to claim a 3-2 victory on aggregate. Speaking after the first leg, Iborra stated, per the Guardian's Sid Lowe: "Leicester showed us that everything is possible."
Iborra - who joined Sevilla from Levante UD in 2013 - tallied seven goals and two assists in 31 La Liga appearances last season, 19 of which were made as a substitute.
