Albacete midfielder Pelayo Novo suffered a serious injury after falling from the third floor of his team's hotel Saturday, with the club stating the 27-year-old is in stable condition, reports the Associated Press.

The accident reportedly occurred at the ABBA hotel in the city of Huesca ahead of a match against SD Huesca, though Novo was taken to hospital in the nearby city of Zaragoza. Spanish media reports, according to AP, that Novo "fell into an open space in an interior area of the hotel."

Albacete issued a statement, as quoted by Marca, explaining the situation:

"Our player, Pelayo Novo, suffered a terrible accident at the team's hotel in the morning, and our player, who is stable, is being transferred to Zaragoza Hospital, accompanied by the medical staff of the club.

"We will promptly inform everyone about our player in due course.

"Albacete Balompie, in turn, wants to thank SD Huesca for their closeness, interest, and willingness to help, as well as the league, other clubs, institutions, and other sports organisations that have been interested in the state of our footballer."

Marca adds that Novo's teammates Ruben Mino and Susaeta were first on the scene before medical assistance arrived. The Spanish league later postponed this second-division match.
