Martial joins Sevilla on loan after minutes dwindle at Manchester United

Manchester United's Anthony Martial moved to Sevilla on loan for the rest of the season Tuesday as the attacker seeks regular first-team football.

Sevilla are reportedly paying Martial's full salary during his temporary stay with Julen Lopetegui's side. Neither club said the Andalusians had an option or obligation to buy in the loan agreement.

Martial's agent stated in December that his client was eager to leave United after he'd fallen down the pecking order under interim boss Ralf Rangnick and his predecessor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Frenchman hasn't started a Premier League match since October, and Rangnick said Martial refused to travel for a game at Aston Villa on Jan. 15.

The 26-year-old denied Rangnick's claim, and after the pair apparently cleared the air, Martial was brought on as a substitute during Saturday's visit from West Ham United. He played an important part in Marcus Rashford's late match-winning goal.

Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and a host of other clubs were interested in Martial, according to The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano. But Martial opted to join a side that's looking to close the gap behind league-leading Real Madrid after disappointing back-to-back draws.

Sevilla's top La Liga scorer is Rafa Mir, who's mustered six goals across 20 appearances.
