Mbappe: PSG told me 'violently' I wouldn't play last season

Kylian Mbappe said that certain people at Paris Saint-Germain made him unhappy in his first interview since joining Real Madrid, adding that last summer the French club told him "violently" that he wouldn't play for it again after a dispute over his contract.

"I wasn't unhappy at PSG, that would be a slap in the face of the people who defended me - I have always been happy," Mbapp told reporters at a news conference with the France national team, according to ESPN.

"But certain things made me unhappy, but a player like me couldn't show that because I am a leader, so I tried to be as positive as possible. The coach, the players and the employees of the club supported me, and it would be bad form to come and moan and say that I was unhappy. But certain things and people made me unhappy."

Mbappe completed his long-awaited move to Real Madrid on Monday, joining the newly crowned Champions League winners on a free transfer after his PSG contract expired.

The 25-year-old credited PSG boss Luis Enrique and sporting director Luis Campos for saving his career in the French capital after a dispute with the club last summer. Mbappe was at odds with PSG after being told he wouldn't play the 2023-24 campaign because he didn't renew his contract.

"They (PSG) made me understand that I wouldn't play, they told me to my face, they told me violently," Mbappe said.

"Luis Enrique and Luis Campos saved me. I wouldn't have set foot on the pitch again without them.

"Just the fact I was playing was a great source of pride, but it's certain that next year I won't be satisfied with a year like that."

PSG disputed Mbappe's remarks, according to Agence France-Presse. The club said that Mbappe has "no class" and that club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi "never dictated the slightest decision to the team. Luis Enrique even said it himself but still, Mbappe says something and everyone prints as if it is the truth."
